Going Camo

Camo is a true example that someone can turn an idea that is not so glamorous and turn it into the next year’s biggest fashion trend. A style that was only thought of as a southern hunting symbol is now worn by city girls and guys all over the world. Even on Runways of some of the world’s most loved designers, Valentino and Michael Kors. As always, runway style is a bit more fashion forward and risky than street style. Michael Kors sent his models down the catwalk in full camo ensembles, which might be too much for the everyday woman.

If you love this trend but are not sure on how to wear it in a way that works for you, start small. Pick yourself up a loose fitting camo print jacket like the pictures above. Add your favorite denim cutoffs and a white pocket v neck to finish the look! This is a great way to introduce a look into your wardrobe that might be scary to try out at first. Just remember, like all things that you are trying for the first time, start small. If you feel bold and daring, then go all out and dress head to toe in full camo! As long as you have the confidence to go with your outfit then work it!

Though I believe that much of the time, less is more, I also believe you can’t be in the fashion business if you are afraid to take some risks! If you still want to stay safe and go for the jacket, try pairing it with a bold and bright pop of color! It will add an unexpected addition to your style without going too far.

Carine and Julia Roitfeld For Givenchy Fall 2013 Ad Campaign

Carine and Julia Roitfeld look amazing in their Givenchy's Fall 2013 ad campaign. I haven't seen them together in an editorial or any photoshoot. Perhaps they had one before but I wouldn't know. In this case, both looks absolutely stunning. Though only the first image is the ad, I thought I'd give a variety to show you what the rest of the two has done. Cheers

Blood Orange Heels

Blood Orange Heels

If I could tango through life, these would accompany me nicely. I found these abandoned Seychelle heels the other day when searching for some summer heels that wouldn’t be uncomfortable if I wanted to take a stroll through the city. As of lately I’ve been pretty clingy with my flats because I feel they never fail me when my feet do. This pair I can swear by because the suede strap material comforts long walks and nights under the disco ball.

Now I know bright heels are certainly daring for some but in all fairness I used to rock the black heel at all times with the occasional Taupe or Camel color. This is totally OK! But having a bright statement color in your footwork isn’t bad especially when you want to make your little black, white, or patterned dress stand out. These pair nicely with not only that ombre dress you’ve had your eye on but also a nice tailored pant and an oversized tee (thank God for American Apparel’s Tri-Blend). If you’re going to go for an oversized/slouchy tee, some leggings, and your red shoes, try a red lip to wow and woo spectators. I must reiterate; I can’t believe someone gave up on these and often times I wonder what goes on in those who gave their clothing or shoes away. Was it a lust purchase that they just had a one night stand with? Did it remind them of their ex? Did it stop fitting? The list goes on… All that I know is I’m happy to collect your disowned looms of goodness any day of the week.

Drugstore Beauty Finds Part 1

Drugstore Beauty Finds Part 1

Drugstore Beauty Finds

This week I will wrap up my favorite drugstore beauty finds, focusing on products that are perfect for summertime. Many of the products I use in the winter don’t work as well when the temperature rises. As much as I love warm weather, I often suffer from shiny skin, frizzy hair and body acne.

Body breakouts are a bummer. Skimpy tops demand flawless skin and a breakout on my back or chest instantly makes me want to cover up. Neutrogena Body Clean Body Wash keeps my skin clear year round and has a refreshing grapefruit scent.

When summertime approaches, I ditch my body butters for a lighter moisturizer. Suave Body Lotion in Everlasting Sunshine has a light, pear fragrance and just enough hydration to leave my skin baby soft.

Most acne cleansers are too harsh on my sensitive skin and have a strong, medicinal scent. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Redness SoothingFacial Cleanser takes makeup off, controls shine and the chamomile soothes my skin.

As much as I would love to let my hair dry naturally in the summer, I often find myself even more of a slave to my curling iron, straightener and blow dryer. TRESemme Platinum Strength Strengthening HeatProtect Spray is a must for  my hair before using heat. Just a few spritzes on damp hair before blow-drying protects my locks from split ends and breakage. The product has a very light scent and doesn’t weigh my hair down or leave it greasy.

What are your go-to beauty items in the summer?

Zara May 2013 Lookbook

Zara has came out with their May 2013 lookbook combining sleek and modern elements in their collection. We see a good mixture of cobalt blues, florals and whites in cuts and shapes unlike what we've seen before. They incorporated it in crops, sports dresses and tailored blazers, just to name a few, in different fabrics and silhouettes to give it a more modern appeal.

The Boyfriend Jeans

The Boyfriend Jeans

Boy, oh Boy. Continuing on the trends for this year, these jeans are actually inspired by the special men in our lives, hence the name “the boyfriend jean”. Unlike the past few years when the jeans were getting skinnier and skinnier, the new way to wear jeans are a little bit baggy but still completely chic. When you first think of “baggy” jeans, you probably won’t associate the style with being classy or elegant. By pairing these pants with the perfect pieces, you will create a look unique and unexpected. One of my favorite ways to work this style is by adding a relaxed v neck such as this Cream V Neck Blouseall white sneakers such as these white Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Sneakers and an adorable strawfedora.

The three main criteria to be considered “boyfriend jeans” are to be at a length in between the calf and ankle, cuffed at the bottom, loose fitting (but not too loose), and they usually consist of rips and tears to give them a destroyed denim effect. These slouchy and slashed jeans are a great way to add an element of comfort to your outfit but you can still unleash your inner fashionista by adding a blazer and a beautiful pair of ankle strap heels. You could also channel your inner cool girl attitude by adding some wedge sneakers and a loose v neck to finish the look off. There are so many different styling options with these jeans, whether you are going shopping on Madison Avenue or running a few errands around town you will turn heads with your girly take on this previously known menswear item.

Emma Watson at Cannes Film Festival 2013

Emma Watson is as gorgeous as always in her Chanel number at the Cannes Film Festival 2013. She wore a Chanel Couture dress with a sequined bodice and floor length white skirt with minimal jewelry. The gown is open at the back while the skirt graduated into a short train.

You can get a similar look with this Asos Crop Top and BB Dakota Mckinley Skirt.

Summer Reading List

Summer Reads

After reading quite a bit of young love and romantic novels, I thought I'd go for a more popular reads this summer. While I haven't dived into these genres before; thriller, historical etc, I decided to give it a try and see if I'd enjoy it. I'm pretty sure some of you have already read some of this novels. If you do, let me know which ones you enjoy!

Details I'm Loving

Sometimes the most subtle details can pull an entire look together. And by subtle I mean a pop of colour, a bit of nude and an animal print here and there. Yes, they are subtle in my book but hey, I consider them as neutral so that sort of counts.

DIANE VON FURSTENBERG Carolina Lips Snake Clutch

DVF Lips Clutch

LagoonDeep Ocean

I swoon over this oversized clutch the first time I stumbled it at Diane Von Furstenberg's website. I'm guessing it's the vid color and carolina lips that won me over. Not so much of the shape of course, as we know it's pretty standard. It also comes in hot pink, bright orange, purple and black.

Short Experiment

Short Experiment

Denim is going to get a lot of love this summer, especially from me. I have a fixation with turning drab to fab. I purchased these hot little numbers at Goodwill. They were flare, high-watered, and tightly sandwiched between other pairs that were getting little love. It took me a few seconds to find an attraction to their light blue denim hue and larger than life patch labeling. A rule of thumb when thrift shopping is to never give up on an article of clothing….unless it’s ripped and useless -- then I suppose it wouldn’t be a bad chew toy.

The ombre` look has trumped any other style this season. I chose to do a little rendition of my own with my orphaned jeans. I hacked off the pant legs because lets be honest, those were a loss cause. I took a bowl of water-diluted bleach ,an old paint brush and started saturating the bottom the most, getting more and more conservative with my strokes as I brushed higher. I frayed the bottoms with a fork (oh yeah I was getting fancy with the resources I had in my kitchen) and sanded them a bit to give it some wear. After all of that I threw them in the dryer to give the frayed ends some oomph and TA-DA!!! Shorts.

I fell in love with my first pair of home-made vintage shorts and went to town on several other masterpieces making each unique and perfect for the right person. Sort of like when Sandra-Dee turned up the sex for Danny in Grease. Ok, I think you guys get it. Find these and other hot-pants at These Odds
